Creating an Effective Tag
A tag is an announcement during the final sixty seconds of a radio program. This tag can be very effective in promoting your congregation and making the connection that your congregation sponsors the ViewPoint broadcast. You may wish to record the tag; you can also ask the radio station's manager if an announcer can simply read a script you have written during the final sixty seconds.
We suggest you include the following information in your announcement:
- Specify the sponsor of ViewPoint for listeners. This includes:
- Sponsoring Church's name
- Sponsoring Church's location. (You may give the physical address, but in some situations it may be helpful to tell where the church is located, e.g. at the corner of Sixth and Walnut behind the post office.)
- Include the telephone number of the church office at least once, preferably several times. Assure those listening that they are welcome to call the church at any time. Offer prayer and counseling services as well.
- Clearly communicate your weekly service times. If you provide nursery facilities, mention that as well as any upcoming special services.
Remember--listeners retain information that is concise and presented in an interesting fashion. If your approach is too strong, it will lose its effectiveness. Above all, make your listeners feel welcome and important.
If you choose not to record your own tag, ViewPoint speaker Jim Lyon can record a tag at your request. Please complete the ViewPoint Tag Form. (This information will assist Pastor Lyon as he prepares his remarks.)
*Helpful hint: 16 lines of typed copy is approximately 60 seconds in length.*
